I have had Ubuntu running on my PC at work and so far have not had to resort to using Windows. It's been very stable, but getting the Java Runtime Environment installed was a minor pain.
It seems that the JRE is not in the default Ubuntu repositories. Sun's site does not include a Debian package for the JRE, although there is self-extracting file. Naively, I downloaded and executed this file, but all it did was to install JRE in my home directory.
Today I found the solution. The steps are a bit arcane, but it works. The How-To is in the Ubuntuforums.
Now I can finally use GoToMyPC, so I don't have to walk upstairs to manage our Windows Server.
