It's just recently that the right-wing has acquired some influence (and media coverage) coverage there. Some conservatives in the legislature are going to try to introduce a constitutional amendment to make marriage only between a man and a woman, but nothing can really happen for a few years. Considering this ruling, any amendment would probably be unconstitutional anyway. Iowa historically has been pretty progressive in civil rights issues throughout its history. It’s just recently that the right-wing has acquired some influence (and media coverage) coverage there. I mean, Iowa isn't really part of the Bible Belt, but I suppose I just kind of lumped it along with it, since Iowa isn't really known (publicly, to the everyday folk like myself) to be super progressive. Obviously it is! But not in the name of trying to be progressive, not to show-off or anything. They're just doing their normal job within the confines of the actual law. They word it all really well, too. So maybe it won't be as scary to move there as I might originally have thought. :-D It’s pretty damn impressive to me.
