Kilts ≠ skirts, and other high school clothing gaffes

JISHOU, HUNAN — On a lighter note, a Utah junior high school principal Monday told a student to remove the Scots kilt the boy was wearing, saying it might be considered “cross-dressing.”

District officials later directed Rocky Mountain JHS Principal Craig Jessop to apologize to Gavin McFarland, 14, saying the district recognized kilts as an authentic expression of the boy’s heritage.

Unlike a high school girl in another part of the US, McFarland wisely did not go commando. The girl, known as “jennajack” on her MySpace, supposedly forgot to put on her underwear before dressing for a high school yearbook photo.
