OK, no wisecracks about the South …

JISHOU, HUNAN — Keep in mind I lived in Kentucky for almost half my life, but take at look at this chart from The Daily Kos.
Birthers origins
To make a long story, most of the people who doubt Pres. Barack Obama is a natural-born US citizen come from the South and are Republican.

While it was not part of the survey’s findings, I would add another qualification for a “birther.”

They are also stupid.

It’s very suspicious how they are concentrated near the southern border: they may not be US citizens themselves. ;)

You're ignoring their perfectly legitimate argument that to be a citizen of the United States, one's parents must also be citizens!Have you seen where Stephen Colbert had one of the frontrunners of the birther movement on his show?

Sorry, to be a natural-born citizen of the US, the only requirement is to be born in the USA or one of its territories. Your parents' citizenship is irrelevant. In the case of someone born abroad, he/she can be a citizen (not natural-born) if one or both of his parents were US citizens at the time of birth. So, my mother was a US citizen at birth, although her parents were both technically Swedish nationals at the time. The same is true for any child born on US soil of immigrant parents, whether they are legal immigrants or not.I missed the Colbert episode, but I caught them on CNN.

Hahaha, well, as Colbert said, "it may not be in the constitution, but that doesn't change anything." That statement arguably is suitable for several things now actually :P

Check the US Code. SCOTUS has ruled on this citizenship question many times. Both McCain (born in the Panama Canal Zone) and Obama (born of a Kenyan national) are natural-born US citizens.

LOL. I didn't know about McCain.Nah, I totally believe it, I brought up the earlier points more out of jest. ;) It sounds like the whole thing is just for attention. I can't help but wonder how much money is being spent on this crap.

Not just money, but time. We've got more important things to worry about than freaking birth certificates. The latest exposé — a Kenyan birth cert — has been verified as a forgery, but it's not stopping birthers like Orly Taitz from using it as "proof" BHO is not an American.
