Intro to blogging
Never been to a blogsite before? Here is a simple explanation to help you understand what’s going on here.
The main portion contains the first 250 words for each post to my blog, from most recent to oldest. Clicking on “Read the full post …” will open the entire post in a new page. Some posts have suggested items for you to purchase from Amazon.com, of which I am an affiliate. If you don’t wish to buy that particular item, clicking on it will enable you to shop elsewhere on Amazon.com. I will be paid a (tiny) commission regardless.
You can also post questions or comments about each of my posts, which I welcome. Don’t worry about whether you’re qualified to discuss science or technology. I teach as a profession, so I’m used to newbies. Fellow bloggers can enter a trackback to their own blogs here, too.
The right hand sidebar is the table of contents for the site. It lists, from the top, my profile (on Technorati.com), Pages, Categories, Blogroll, Favorite Sites, General Sites, Archives, a shameless plea for donations, and Meta tags. Each is described in turn below.
- My profile is on Technorati.com, a search engine for millions of weblogs. The profile ies still a work in progress. Meanwhile, have a look around Technorati, which is as habit-forming as searching with Google or reading Wikipedia articles.
- Pages, like this one, are entries that are not part of the blog chronology. They are there primarily for reference. I plan to add some physics and astronomy pages here soon.
- The chronological posts are grouped into Categories. This section lists the Categories and the number of posts in each. Clicking on a category will bring up a summary of the posts under that heading.
- The Blogroll is a collection of other weblogs that I find interesting, entertaining or useful. I post to some of them, as well.
- Favorites Sites are just that. They are not blogsites, but “regular” websites. Two of them are my side businesses.
- General Sites are those that index, rank, and crawl weblogs. Under them is a “live” index of top stories from Buzzflash.com, a liberal news and commentary site.
- Next is a Donations button, a repetition of a similar page near the top of the sidebar.
- Meta links allow a visitor to login, register for the first time, and learn more about the software that makes this blog possible. I have also included a link to my webhost, pehosting.com, who offer great value at a decent price.
Feel free to poke around this site, and thanks for visiting!
