Federal judge fines birther lawyer Orly Taitz $20K; Taitz says, ‘Nuts!’

JISHOU, HUNAN — US Federal Judge Clay Land, in a scathing 43-page ruling, finally put California lawyer Orly Taitz in her place for filing “frivolous” suits claiming President Barack Obama is not an American citizen.

Citing Taitz’ continued misuse of the federal judiciary and her inability to even act like a lawyer, Land ruled sua sponte that Taitz has to pay the federal government $20,000 for violating federal court procedures.

Taitz’ response was typically defiant. She told Talking Points Memo that she has no intention of paying. “This is a form of intimidation,” she said.

Land’s decision says the court would refer the matter to the US Attorney General’s office for collection, if Taitz fails to pay up. I dunno, I’d be intimidated if it were me. But I’m not monomaniacal.

TPM has the details of the latest chapter in the Orly Taitz saga, so I’ll just give the short version.

Taitz, a California dentist and real estate broker who earned her law degree from a correspondence school, is convinced that Obama was not born in Hawai’i and is a “usurper” who cannot legally be president. She has dug up any number of documents so bogus that even fellow birthers won’t touch them.

Her latest ploy was to convince an Army Reserve doctor about to be deployed to Iraq to file suit against the Army and the federal government, alleging the doctor’s deployment in harm’s way should be delayed until the court ruled on Obama’s legitimacy as commander-in-chief.
